‘Lee Jae-Sung’s powerful header to first goal bang’ Mainz wins first league game against ‘powerhouse’ Leipzig…

Lee Jae-sung (31, Mainz) saved his club from the brink

FSV Mainz 05 won 2-0 against RB Leipzig in the 10th round of the 2023-2024 Bundesliga at the Meba Arena in Mainz, Germany, at 11:30 p.m. (ET) on Thursday.
With the three points, Mainz climbed out of the bottom 18 in the league and into 17th place (three points).
This was a valuable win for Mainz.

In their previous nine games, Mainz had only managed three draws and six losses, failing to pick up a single win in the league.

After finishing the previous season in ninth place, the club had been disappointing entering the 2023-2024 season.
The star of the match was Lee Jae-sung. Starting behind Karim Onisibo in the attacking second line, Lee Jae-sung rattled the net in the 31st minute with a powerful header from Onisibo’s cross from the right flank.

Lee was then substituted for Merveille Papela in stoppage time to finish the game.

Mainz took the momentum against Leipzig, who had won six games and drawn two before the match and were unbeaten in their last five league games with three wins and two draws, and won 2-0 with Lee Jae-sung’s opener and a 37th-minute goal from Leandro Baheiro.
Lee, who scored both the game-winner and the game-tying goal to secure his team’s first league victory of the season, was recognized for his performance with a 7.5 rating from ratings site ‘Potmob’.
