Hee-young Yang used a “shot eagle” to win the final event of the 2023 season on the Women’s Professional Golf (LPGA) Tour.
Hee-young Yang carded an eagle, five birdies and a bogey in the fourth round of the CME Group Tour Championship at Tiburon Golf Club Gold Course (Par 72) in Naples, Florida, USA, on Tuesday (July 20) to finish at 27-under-par 261. She won $2 million ($2.593 billion).
It was Yang’s fifth career victory in four years and nine months after winning the Honda LPGA Thailand in February 2019.
She is the third South Korean to win a season-ending tour championship, joining Jin Young Ko (2021, 2020) and Se Young Kim (2019).
The prize money was even bigger.
Yang, who started the final round tied for the lead with Nasa Hataoka (JPN), made two birdies and a bogey in the first half of the day to drop one stroke.
Hataoka was two strokes back with two birdies, leaving Yang one stroke behind.
However, a shot eagle on the 13th (par-4) changed the momentum.
Hee-young Yang’s second shot sailed past the hole and back spun into an eagle, giving her the lead.”
