The NC Dinos ravaged the Doosan mound with a strong batting lineup.

The NC Dinos won the 12th game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League against the Doosan Bears 12-5 on Tuesday at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul.

NC avenged the previous day’s loss to improve to 52 wins, two ties, and 48 losses on the season. Doosan, on the other hand, fell to 50 wins, one draw and 51 losses. The five-percent win rate collapsed again within a day.

The home team lined up in the following order: Park Kye-beom (second base), Kim Jae-ho (shortstop), Jose Rojas (right field), Yang Seok-hwan (designated hitter), Kim Jae-hwan (left field), Kang Seung-ho (first base), Park Jun-young (third base), Jang Seung-hyun (catcher), and Cho Sun-hyun (center field). Center fielder Jung Soo-bin was rested due to a thigh injury, so Park Kye-beom batted first and Cho played center field.

NC countered with Son Asub (right fielder), Park Min-woo (second baseman), Park Gun-woo (designated hitter), Jason Martin (center fielder), Kwon Hee-dong (left fielder), Seo Ho-cheol (third baseman), Yoon Hyung-joon (first baseman), Kim Joo-won (shortstop), and Ahn Jung-yeol (catcher).
From the first pitch, it was all NC. In the top of the first inning, Son As-seob singled to center field against Doosan starter Kwak Bin’s first pitch. Park Min-woo followed with an 8-pitch grounder to the second baseman to help Son advance to third, and after a wild pitch, Park Gun-woo scored the game’s first run with a single.

Doosan countered in the second inning. Kim Jae-hwan led off with a walk and Kang Seung-ho followed with a double to put runners on second and third. Park Jun-young’s grounder to shortstop resulted in a throwing error by shortstop Kim Joo-won, allowing Kim to score the tying run. Kang Seung-ho moved to third and Park to second.

The scoring continued for Doosan. Jang Seung-hyun calmly hit a grounder to the second baseman to score the tying run, and Cho Sung-hyun followed with a single up the middle. Doosan took a 3-1 lead.

NC did not back down. In the top of the third inning, Ahn Jung-yeol led off the comeback with a solo home run. Ahn took a five-pitch high slider (139 mph) from Kwak Bin at 2B-2S and blasted a solo shot to left field. It was his third home run of the season, his first in nearly two months since June 8 against Daegu Samsung Electronics.

The fourth inning was a promising one. Martin led off with a solo home run to tie the game at 3-3. Martin watched Kwak Bin’s first pitch and then took advantage of a two-pitch changeup (129 kilometers) for a solo home run to tie the game. It was his 13th homer of the season in four games since he hit one against Hanwha in Changwon on May 15.

Kwon Hee-dong then singled, Yoon Hyung-joon grounded into a fielder’s choice to put runners on second and third, and after a wild pitch, Kim Joo-won hit an RBI single off reliever Lee Young-ha for the winning run. It was the game-winning hit.

The NC bats came alive again in the seventh inning. Son As-seop led off with a single to left and then Park Min-woo followed with a run-scoring double. A sacrifice bunt by Park and a walk by Martin put runners on first and third, and Kwon Hee-dong doubled to center to widen the gap.

Doosan would not go away. In the seventh, after a leadoff walk, Kim Jae-ho and Yang Seok-hwan singled to left to load the bases, and Kim Jae-hwan followed with an RBI double. However, a wild pitch ended the second and third base chances as pinch-hitter Kim In-tae struck out swinging.

NC did not stand still. In the top of the eighth, Ahn Jung-yeol led off with a single to left, followed by Son Asub’s RBI double and Park Min-woo’s RBI triple. After Park Geon-woo was retired on a grounder to shortstop, Martin drove in the winning run with an RBI double.

NC celebrated the victory with a solo home run to left field by Kim Joo-won in the top of the ninth. It was Kim’s seventh home run of the season, his first in nearly two months, against Doosan’s Lee Byung-hun on June 14 in Changwon. Park Young-bin followed with his first career hit with a two-run double, while Park Dae-on, the bases-loaded third baseman, hit a sacrifice fly.

NC starter Tanner Tully earned his first win in the KBO with six innings of seven hits, one walk, four strikeouts and three runs (one earned). He was followed by Kim Si-hoon, Kim Young-kyu, Ryu Jin-wook, Lee Yong-chan, and Lim Jung-ho. At the plate, Son was the star of the show, going 4-for-5 with a home run, one RBI and three runs scored. Martin had three hits, including a home run, and Park Min-woo, Kwon Hee-dong, Kim Joo-won, and Ahn Jung-yeol provided support with multi-hit performances.

Meanwhile, Doosan starter Kwak Bin suffered his sixth loss of the season (nine wins) after giving up four runs on seven hits (two home runs) in 3⅔ innings, walking one and striking out four. After reaching the nine-win plateau against Hanwha in Daejeon on April 1, they failed to reach 10 wins in three consecutive games. Kim Jae-ho and Rojas’ two hits were the only bright spots in the loss.

After a day off, NC will play a three-game midweek series against SSG in Incheon on the 22nd. Doosan travels to Gochuk to face Kiwoom. 토토사이트
