Macau’s casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) rose 9.6% month-on-month to 16.66 billion MOPs ($2.07 billion) in July, the Game Inspection Coordination Bureau, a local regulator, said on Tuesday.
That beat the May GGR performance, which was the highest monthly performance since January 2020, the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the GGR hitting MOP 22.13 billion.
Securities firm JPMorgan Securities (Asia-Pacific) said in a mid-July memo that the Macau industry was strong in its monthly earnings, with the company posting 500 million MOPs per day compared with 500 million MOPs per day in the second quarter. The GGR fell 2.3% month-on-month in June.
The July tally represents a 4,082.9% increase from July 2022, when COVID-19-related travel restrictions were still in place. The city’s casinos were temporarily closed during July last year as part of its response to the pandemic, which at the time occupied a low GGR base.
In the seven months to July 31, Macau’s GGR was nearly MOP 96.8 billion, up 263.0% from the first seven months of 2022, the latest data showed.
