China’s two adults, Guangdong and Fujian, which combine supply at normal trading hours, over a quarter of Macau’s gaming gross revenue (GGR), appear to be recovering fastest from COVID-19 lockdowns, a report by brokers Sanford C. Bernstein and Co LLC said on Wednesday.
The report cites two GGR contributions based on casino operator information, Nielsen’s investigation, and the brokerage’s monopoly analysis and estimates.
The data showed that economic activity in mainland China’s “Fujian, particularly the southern cities of Xiamen and Guangdong (China’s most populous provinces of 114 million),” is recovering the fastest.
Many brokers have speculated over the past few months that Macau tourism could begin in phases, starting with visits to the mainland, due to numerous travel restrictions across China and the Asia-Pacific to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Next to Macau on Hengchin Island (file photo) – a section of mainland territory touted by mainland authorities as a non-game tourist hub to complement Macau – The Chimelong International Marine Resort will reopen on Thursday (April 30) to coincide with China’s Labor Day holiday. The Chinese State Council has designated May 1-5 as this year’s vacation period.
According to reports, the relaunch of Kimmelon will be based on limited capacity rather than the usual 30 percent or more. Indoor attractions will remain closed, and some performances at the theme park will also not be seen.
Mainland residents who want to visit Chimelong, which is still subject to a 14-day quarantine, will need to register online in advance and book an online entry ticket online. Upon entering Chimelong, visitors must declare their health and undergo a temperature check.
